“Doomsday”

As I see the headlines of news gripping the internet, magazines, and newspapers and read about the doomsday clock ticking forward, I am instantly reminded of Matthew chapter 24.  Jesus spoke of this very thing and so the answer is very clear if you are a believer and you know the Word of Christ.

Matthew chapter 24 (NIV) (click here for full chapter)

Verses 6-14: You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

Verses 15-29 are more warnings of things that will occur.

Verses 30-31 : “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

Verses 32-34 are a parable I also encourage you to pay attention to when reading the entire passage.

Verses 35-36: Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

I take hope in trusting my father God.  I know my Jesus and I know that His words never fall short just as He never leaves me or forsakes me.  He has clearly outlined things that must happen and things we need to be watchful of.  Don’t think any man is your savior.  Don’t believe the lies that are spoken about this war or that war or this doomsday or that doomsday.  No man knows the hour or the day.

More and more I have noticed the media rushing to be the first to print before checking facts.  They are insinuating things will happen before they actually happen and instead of saying “we got this wrong”, they twist the story again to make it sound worse or equally as bad with more insinuations.  There’s little truth anymore.  You can now open a piece of online literature and find it made completely up of scenarios or typed out opinions with no backing and no proof.  The words they write can quickly and fiercely grip you with fear of your future, if there is one, according to them.

In those moments, remember, fear does not come from God.  Fear is the opposite of faith.  Ask yourself, “where does my hope come from?”, “Where does my help come from?”.

If you find yourself living with no hope and lots of fear, turn the news off and open your Bible.  I mean this!  Turn it off and open your Bible.  The news can’t save you.  Our president can’t ruin you or save you.  The last president and the next one can’t ruin you or save you.  Who is the author and the finisher of your faith?  Who is the one you put your trust in?  Who is faithful, loving, and kind?  Who is the one who created you.  Don’t be deceived by this “doomsday clock”.  It’s man-made, not God made.

Let me tell you what truly is crucial and life altering.  Your decision to live in grace, faith, peace, hope, and love is absolutely critical to your very survival on this sin filled earth.  Your decision to live above the rumors, scandals, uncertainties, fears, and lack of hope this world gives us and to choose Jesus is so crucial.  Live in Him.  Have a relationship with Him.  Spend time with Him.  Talk to Him.  Sing to Him.  Live for Him.  Trust Him.

Father, today, I put my faith in you completely because I will trust you, my maker.  I will put my hope in you.  I search for your peace instead of searching out more words that cause fear to reside in my heart.  I let go of my preconceptions and allow you to work in my life.   Give me wisdom to know the difference between deception and truth so I can step aside from all those things that continue to deceive me.  Give me a yearning to turn off the news and open my Bible, to spend time with you rather than time reading opinions and assumptions, and to search out your truth while ignoring the lies.  Lord, be with me and those I love.  In Jesus precious name.
