The Secret to Happiness

Sometimes the struggle is real.  I saw a friend post about anxiety recently on FB and how it’s an inward struggle that no one can see.  It causes isolation of yourself from others which turns them away.  They think the problem is them.  “It’s not you, it’s me” showed up in the short video 3 times.  A reminder and a confession and a plead for you to not leave me because I’ll be back!

I’ve been there in that dark place and I know several who have been there too.  Some stay there because it’s comfortable.  Some, like me, fight to stay out through realization, the word of God, and pressing through and making myself go places and do things I normally would try to say no to.

This paralyzing fear has many roots but the soil is the same.  Satan wants to keep us all bound up with whatever works so we won’t walk in our calling and in the goodness of God.  He doesn’t want us blessing others and he doesn’t want us blessed by opportunities our great God has for us!  He wants us broken, weak, afraid, and chained up like a prisoner in emotions, health, and in our minds… in darkness.

I had an anxiety attack in college and had to take a medical leave for a while.  I had too much on my plate! I’ve had anxiety about going around certain people because of broken relationships, attitudes, memories, or worry that it just won’t go well.  I’ve had anxiety due to my health because I know steps I have to take in the next 1-2 years that are scary, but more than that, the waiting gives me anxiety. I hate to wait.

But in His glorious power, I have discovered the secret to happiness.

Whether your struggle is with anxiety, regret, worry, depression, oppression, lack of control, the unknown, the waiting, or simply being around people, this is for you…

We have not stopped praying for you since the first day we heard about you. In fact, we always pray that God will show you everything he wants you to do and that you may have all the wisdom and understanding his Spirit gives. Then you will live a life that honors the Lord, and you will always please him by doing good deeds. You will come to know God even better. His glorious power will make you patient and strong enough to endure anything, and you will be truly happy.

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭1:9-11‬ ‭CEVUS06‬‬

Let’s bullet point this for a minute.

  • Always PRAY!
  • Ask the Lord always what to do.
  • Pray for wisdom and understanding.
  • Live a life that honors the Lord.
  • Always DO for others.
  • Come to know Him better!

The end result: “His glorious power will make you patient and strong enough to endure anything, and you will be truly happy.”

Wow! Wow! Wow! These bullet points make it all sound so easy, don’t they.  Well, it won’t be easy, not all the time.  But, it is doable.  It’s also an “always” kinda thing.  Did you notice the word “always” is used twice in this scripture? Gaining wisdom and understanding, always praying, living a life that honors God, is all a daily process.  Sometimes, it’s a moment by moment process.  These things we must do, we must do always.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Galations 6:9 NIV

Do NOT give up!

Oh Father! Let us not grow weary of doing good.  Your Holy written Word has so many wonderful and beautiful promises for those of us who seak you, abide in you, and bless your Holy name, and when we do these things always.  Thank you, thank you, thank you for including me in your blessings of hope and hapiness.  Thank you for allowing me to be a receiver of your promised harvest.  I bless your Holy name, Jesus.  Thank you for wisdom and understanding that only your spirit can give.  Thank you for showing me all you have for me to do and for making me patient and strong enough to endure anything! I want to live a life that’s pleasing to you.  In Jesus holy glorious name. Amen.
