Lacking Joy?

In 2015, I grew so much in God and His plan for my life.  Things I’ve wished for and hoped for and wandered about became crystal clear for the first time.  Praise God! I’ll be talking about each of these things at some point, but today is all about joy!

1 thing the Lord has really been dealing with me about in 2015 is my lack of joy.  I’m very clearly and obviously blessed.  My children are happy and healthy.  My husband loves me to no end and he’s healthy and he’s everything to me.  We truly have a happy family and I couldn’t ask for anything else.  Our businesses are doing well and God sustained us through the recession a few years ago when many lost their businesses.  We have a beautiful home where I am so blessed to be able to homeschool our children. We have a great new church where we have made friends instantly with some amazing people.  We have our “old” faithful friends too whom we love very much.  We are blessed beyond measure.  There’s no reason for me to be “blue” or to not be able to find joy.

We’ve been chewing on Psalm 51:10 for 2 days now.  Today, we’re going to move forward just 2 verses.

Psalm 51:10-12 “Create in me a clean heart, Oh God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”

1st, God creates a clean heart and right spirit in me. This means I renew my mind in His word daily.  I’m kinder, I begin to control my emotions and my choices better.  I’m showing signs of being a new creation in Christ. My motives are good.

2nd, I long so much to be in His presence that I beg Him never to leave me.  I don’t just want Him in my life, I hunger and yearn for His presence to constantly be with me.

3rd, He restores joy of His salvation to me.  Through my new clean heart and right spirit and through my longing to be with Him always, He gives me joy. He also grants me a willing spirit that this hunger for Him will never go away causing Him to sustain me no matter what I’m going through.  It’s all a domino effect.

Your life is not mine and mine is not yours.  None of us are without troubles.  I listed all the wonderful things about my life above and I’m sure you have a list of your own.  I also have people and things in my life, that stress me out to no end if I let them, and I’m sure you do as well.  I say that to say this, no matter where you are in life, this scripture is for YOU!  If you are homeless, on the brink of divorce, overwhelmed with life, suffering from illness, if you’re an exhausted caregiver, or if everything is awesome, this scripture is for YOU!

I’m almost in tears reading this scripture.  THIS is where my joy comes from! You want more joy? This is it, friend! This is the answer.  Allow the Lord to create in you a clean heart, to restore the joy of His salvation to you and allow Him to grant you a willing heart to sustain you, no matter what!  Yes, He will sustain you no matter what. Will it always be easy? You can bet your bottom dollar it will almost never be easy.  But, pressing through and pressing on is so much better than the alternative.  Serving Him and allowing Him to restore joy in you is so much better than continuing to be lost, miserable, confused, or wandering around going nowhere with no joy.

If you are lacking joy, check your relationship with the Lord.  Maybe you’re in sin.  Maybe you don’t spend time with Him like you use to.  Maybe you aren’t really sure what has happened or why you feel the way you do.  Maybe you know exactly why you feel the way you do, but you feel you don’t deserve to be happy.  Whatever it is, get in the face of God and allow Him to start working in you today.  You do deserve to be filled with His joy! He loves you endlessly.

Oh God, I thank you for today.  God, I need you more.  I need your joy.  I need you to sustain me.  I need your presence continually in my life.  I humble myself and ask you to fill me up so much with your joy that I can’t contain it all and it permeates my face when I look into the eyes of others around me.  I receive this scripture, your Holy Word, knowing and believing it is for me. Grant me a willing spirit to draw closer to you today. I love you Jesus and I thank you for it all! In Jesus name, Amen.
