Running the Race

I was in the Word just a few minutes ago and found something very interesting. I’ve heard the scripture preached several times; 1 Corinthians 9:24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. (1 Corinthians 9:24 NIV). However, they’ve always stopped there!! The focus is on winning a prize. The focus should be on the training to win the prize!!

The rest of the passage says this : Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. (1 Corinthians 9:25-27 NIV)

Living a Christian life for a new believer is very different than those of us who have been around the block for a while. We should all strive to live a pure life, but baby steps are expected of most new believers. The rest of us need to run the race in a strict training regard. We must always be tune in to the voice of God and the leading of the Holy Spirit. We must not sit quietly by in situations that do not honor the name of Jesus! We must not consciously maintain a sinful life with the belief that God’s grace will cover this up 😉 once saved always saved as if we can do no wrong and live a life without conviction because we said a prayer when we were 5 years old. We are held to a higher level of accountability because we know and understand the Word of God and the life and death of Jesus Christ!

Run the run. Train with strict Godly guidelines. Win the race!
