Is This A Funeral?

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters.
He restores my soul!
He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of death,
I will fear no evil!
For you are with me!
Your rod and your staff,
They comfort me!

Yes, I know… This is a “funeral” scripture… But I promise you this nugget is far from dead! The writer of this nugget is alive and well! Most importantly, the maker of the writer of this nugget is on the throne!!!!

Have you ever really read this scripture? The address is Psalm 23:1-4.

I opened my Bible tonight and the pages fell open to this scripture. I had it marked with a flyer I got in India promoting The Franklin Graham ministry, and I had it marked for a reason. This scripture helped me tremendously during this last year. Any time I had feelings of fear, depression, sadness, anger, confusion, and any other emotion that comes along with the circumstance we went through, I read this scripture!

This scripture was written by David who happens to be the most intriguing and interesting person to me. This man killed, committed adultery, danced naked before the Lord and everyone else, went crazy, was king, lost his kingdom, got his kingdom back, wrote most of Psalms, and the list goes on. God said David was a man after God’s on heart and so Jesus was born from the family of David! I’m sure there is a scripture reference regarding why David wrote this Psalm and what he was going through at the time. I’m not sure what it was myself, but I am sure I relate to this scripture.

This scripture recognizes that God is loving, kind and gentle in all His ways. It is a reminder that He will never leave us no matter how dark or grim our life seems to be. It shows courage that we will stand and declare that we will not live in fear because we trust our God! And finally in the middle of it all, David declares that God has given Him peace beside the still waters. Amongst the chaos and pain and confusion, David has peace knowing God is with him and he declares that the Lord restores his soul.

The Lord has restored my soul! Amongst the mess He has blessed me with peace… he has taken me by the hand and has lead me to green pastures and quiet waters. He has comforted me and because of this, I like David, fear no evil as He continues to guide me down paths of righteousness!! Thank you Jesus!
